Officials unveiled the name on Saturday of a Marine who was killed in the assault at the airport in Kabul.

Sgt. Nicole Gee, who was assigned to the Combat Logistics Battalion 24, 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, II Maritime Expeditionary Force, in Camp Lejeune, died at 23. She was from Sacramento, Calif.

A write-up from her Instagram page attributes a photograph of her keeping a toddler in Kabul. “I love my task,” she wrote.

Her instagram demonstrates she was lately promoted to Sergeant.

In an interview with WRAL News, Gee’s sister, Misty Fuoco, stated Gee joined the Marines due to the fact of her husband, who’s also a Maritime. A fondness to support other individuals guided Gee, who obtained into the support soon after significant faculty.

A GoFundMe set up by Fuoco says her spouse and children will “for good be transformed and eternally hurt with her absence.”

The GoFundMe has raised far more than $2,000 for funeral charges.

Fuoco claims she leaves powering a partner, who is also a Maritime.

Additionally, a soldier with North Carolina ties was killed in the suicide bombing in Afghanistan on Thursday. Ryan Knauss, 23, served in Fort Bragg’s 1st Special Forces Command. Knauss was a Knoxville, Teneessee native.
